Villanovaforru (Medio Campidano)

Nuraghe Genna Maria
On a hilltop in the Marmilla, the nuraghe Genna Maria was an important Nuragic control centre in Sardinia.
A CONTROL CENTRE IN THE MARMILLA
The complex stands in the territory of Villanovaforru, on the summit of a hill, from where the view reaches the Gulf of Oristano and, on the clearest days, the Gulf of Cagliari.
Inhabited for over half a millennium, the Genna Maria complex developed around the nuraghe as one of the main centres of control and organisation in central-southern Sardinia. The dwellings of an extensive village and a perimeter wall completed the settlement.
Today the village huts, the perimeter wall and the complex nuraghe are preserved at the site.

THE TERRITORY
The complex stands at Villanovaforru, on the summit of a hill in the Marmilla, from where the view reaches the Gulf of Oristano and, on the clearest days, the Gulf of Cagliari. Around the nuraghe developed an extensive village with a perimeter wall.
